David Harvey DC, MChiro
“Have you more faith in a spoonful of medicine than in the power that animates the living world?”
–B.J. Palmer (The Developer of Chiropractic)
David Harvey was born in Kent, before settling in West London during early childhood. From here his supportive parents encouraged him to pursue his talents for both academics and sport whichever way possible, putting an equal weighting of importance on both aspects of his life. It was through his sporting career – having reached a national level in track & field athletics – which he first experienced chiropractic as a patient at the tender age of 15. Having seen the powerful effects of the treatment first hand when all else had failed to deliver, he was inspired to do the same for others.
David took his seed of inspiration and developed it while studying at university. After graduating from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic, David has continued to progress his development within the profession, having studied both Applied Kinesiology and Advanced Biostructural Correction techniques, to find and treat the underlying causes of injuries as efficiently as possible.
After finishing his studies, David moved back to his hometown in Hounslow, joining the SpineCentral team in 2015.
As a Chiropractor
Having competed as an elite level athlete, David has a deep understanding of how the body works and functions, as well as the stresses that it undergoes within a sporting context. The stresses which the body goes through during a rigorous training regime are just an extreme or accelerated progression of the normal stresses of day-to-day life. His aim within the profession is also to be able to apply this knowledge to the active body of every person to gain optimal health and function.
The field of healthcare is an evolving organism. People are no longer satisfied with dealing with problems once they arrive – they instead want to prevent the problems from starting in the first place! David had the same way of thinking like an athlete, training not only to perform better but also to prevent injury. This is the same principle which David applies to chiropractic, to not only address problems which do inevitably arise, but to also provide a preventative method to stop future occurrences.
As a Person
Naturally, as a sportsperson, David has a hardwired competitive edge to his personality which he is now able to focus on chiropractic. This means that throughout his career he will do everything he can do be the best chiropractor that he can be for his patients. This, combined with his pedantic self-scrutiny, means he works continuously on perfecting everything from the effectiveness of his treatments to the depth of his knowledge base, and to living the healthy lifestyle which he promotes. He does not see any limit or bounds to his development, knowledge or skills, and so he actively strives to be better every day.
“The human body is an amazingly unique machine – it works by every single component integrating and functioning together in sync. Discomfort is a product of dysfunction within the body. To gain the best function from the body, these dysfunctions must be found and addressed. As a chiropractor, my goal is to give everyone the integration within their body which they need, so that they can then optimally function in their day-to-day life.”
